What is ANZAC Day? ANZAC Day - 25 April - is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as ANZACs, and the pride they soon took in that name endures to this day.
On April 25th please take a moment out of your day to stand alongside us as we remember those Australians and New Zealanders who gave their lives in the First World War and in subsequent wars so we could live in freedom.
The Returned Services League has taken their Ode of Remembrance from the 4th stanza of "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon (1869-1943)
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."

Tomorrow is April 25th here and I will honor their memory with a prayer .

Anzac Day is a public holiday here but we also have,
Remembrance Day (11 November) marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914-18). Each year Australians observe one minute's silence at 11am on 11 November in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

Anzac Day is a public holiday here but we also have, Remembrance Day (11 November) marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914-18). Each year Australians observe one minute's silence at 11am on 11 November in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. In the U.S. we have 2 holidays for our war heroes. In May, Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. The traditional date is May 30, but it's observed on the last Monday of May. In November, Veterans Day is a celebration to honor America's veterans (both living and dead) for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. History of Veterans Day...In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…" But in 1954, after World War II had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces had fought aggression in Korea, the 83rd Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting in its place the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
